The San Francisco Freedom School
We have been inspired by the 1964 Freedom School Curriculum to offer a summer program that has inspired participants, since 2005, to become "active agents of social change." People who have attended our free Saturday sessions every July and August come away understanding that what they do in their lives can make a difference.
The 1964 Freedom Schools were part of “Freedom Summer,” a project of the Southern Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi in 1964. The 1964 Curriculum is one of the most successful examples of how schools can be places where people want to learn, enjoy learning and use their learning to improve the conditions of everyone.
In addition to our interracial and intergenerational Summer Program, we offer workshops throughout the year (per requested).
